A Case of Virginal Breast Hypertrophy.

A 12-year-old girl visited due to massive breast enlargement during past 10 months. We evaluated hormonal levels and radiologic studies but could not find the cause and diagnosed as virginal or juvenile breast hypertrophy. Hormonal therapy was not effective. We relieved her physical discom- fort or mental anguish with reduction mammoplasty and report with brief review of related literatur- es.

Clinical pictures of 2 cases with I-cell disease patients, 8 and 11 months old female, were analyzed. Characteristic coarse facial features, gum hypertrophy, retarded growth and dysostosis multiplex were observed in both cases. Under phase contrast microscopic examination, cultured fibroblasts of skin of case I patient had their cytoplasm filled with numerous dark granules leaving only a juxtanuclear crescent free of inclusions.
